The Rockies have signed 34-year old lefty reliever Aaron Fultz to a minor league contract. He opted his way out of a contract with the Tigers after they decided not to add them to their roster. He has pitched in 4 games in AAA-Ball this season and he is 0-1 with a 1.59 ERA and a 1.94 WHIP. Fultz has pitched in 463 games (1 start) in his major league career and he is 25-15 with 3 saves, a 4.26 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. Fultz will likely join the Rockies’ bullpen after a short stint in the minors.

23-year old lefty swinging 3B Ian Stewart is off to a slow start in the minors. Stewart is the #2 prospect in the Colorado Rockies’ entire system accoring to Baseball America’s Prospect Handbook. Stewart has played in 30 games in AAA-Ball so far this season and he is 28 for 114 (.246 avg, .849 OPS) with 24 runs scored, 7 homers, 13 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. Stewart is blocked at third base by Garrett Atkins so it would be smart of him to convert to 2B where the Rockies’ have a huge hole in the lineup right now.

Aaron Cook was given a nice contract in the off season and many questioned why the Rockies did it. The answer is that the Rockies felt that if Cook could stay healthy that he would be a good pitcher for them. They seem to have been right as he has been by far the best starting pitcher for the Rockies this season. Cook has started 7 games for the Rockies this year and he is 5-1 with a 2.40 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. As long as Cook keeps the ball down he will continue to be effective this season.

Scott Podsednik is off an running this season for the Colorado Rockies

Scott Podsednik could be on the verge of getting more playing time for the Rockies because of his play so far this season. Podsednik has played in 26 games this season for the Rockies and he is 12 for 35 (.343 avg, .963 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 5 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The problem for Podsednik is that he’s not a natural CF and he won’t likely get any time in RF or LF. Still, he has been a huge asset off the bench for the Rockies so far this year.

The Colorado Rockies sign shortstop Juan Castro

The Rockies have signed 35-year old righty swinging Juan Castro to a minor league contract. He likely won’t be in the minors long due to the fact that the Rockies are having troubles with the middle infield. Castro played in 7 games for the Reds this season and he was 0 for 10 (.000 avg, .091 OPS) with 1 run scored. Castro has now played in 930 games in his major league career and he is 510 for 2,221 (.230 avg, .604 OPS) with 211 runs scored, 33 homers and 195 RBIs. This is a nice low risk move for the Rockies.
