Todd Helton getting his groove back for the Colorado Rockies

Todd Helton is swinging a good stick for the Rockies so far this season.  In the off season the Rockies came close to trading Helton to the Red Sox but I bet they’re happy that they didn’t right now.  In 21 games so far this season, Helton is 27 for 74 (.365 avg, .964 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer and 14 RBIs.  If Helton keeps this pace up the Rockies are going to score a lot of runs this season.

Manny Corpas has been outstanding so far for the Colorado Rockies

Manny Corpas will now be elevated to the setup man role after Ramon Ramirez and LaTroy Hawkins have went down to injury.  In 11 games this season Corpas has a 0-1 record with a 0.77 ERA and a 0.60 WHIP.  He has been really nasty to hitters so far this season as he’s only allowed 5 hits and he’s whiffed 9 batters in 11.2 innings.  Corpas should be able to handle the 8th inning role for the Rockies and he might get to keep the job in he continues to pitch so well.

The Colorado Rockies place LaTroy Hawkins on the DL

The Rockies have placed LaTroy Hawkins on the 15 day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.  I wonder if his elbow is really hurt or are just his feelings hurt from pitching so terrible?  Hawkins is 0-3 with a 8.59 ERA and a 2.05 WHIP so far this season.  In 7.1 innings this year Hawkins has allowed 11 hits, 7 earned runs and 4 walks, and that is terrible.  Lefty Tom Martin was activated to take Hawkins’ spot on the Rockies roster.

The Colorado Rockies need more from Troy Tulowitzki

Troy Tulowitzki has had big problems with the bat in his hands and that better change soon if he wants to stay in the major leagues.  In 16 games this season Tulowitzki is 11 for 57 (.193 avg, .509 OPS) with 4 runs scored and 4 RBIs.  He has also whiffed 16 times already this season and that’s way to many for the style of hitter that Tulowitzki is.  Clint Barmes has been brought up by the Rockies to replace Kaz Matsui on the roster so Tulowitzki better get his act together quickly.

The Colorado Rockies had another sub par week

Blogged under Front Page, Weekly Results, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 23 April 2007 at 6:33 pm

The Rockies were 3-4 last week but they were outscored 41-21.  The Rockies need their bats to wake up soon or they are going to be in trouble.  The Rockies are currently in last place in the National League West, 5 games behind the LA Dodgers.
