The Rockies have lost rookie pitcher Zack McClellan for the remainder of the season after he underwent arthroscopic on his right shoulder.  McClellan had a rough introduction to the majors this season as he was 1-0 with a 5.79 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP.  In 12 games this season he pitched 14 innings and he allowed 20 hits, walked 5 batters and whiffed 13.

Kaz Matsui is on fire so far this season proving that his good work for them in 2006 was not a fluke.  Matsui has been banged up a little bit this season but it hasn’t stopped him from swinging a good bat.  In 31 games this season, Matsui is 40 for 125 (.320 avg, .834 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 2 homers, 16 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.  With Matsui in the lineup the Rockies have taken off with him getting on base for the big guys.  Look for that to continue.

The Colorado Rockies release Steve Finley

Steve Finley just plain and simple…..didn’t play well enough to keep his spot on the Rockies.  He played in 43 games this season and he was 17 for 94 (.181 avg, .490 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs.  The Rockies felt it was time to get some of their young players the at bats that Finley was wasting.  They won’t miss Finley one bit.

Ryan Spilboroghs is ripping the baseball for the Colorado Rockies

Ryan Spilboroghs is smoking hot with the bat lately.  In his last 4 games, he is 5 for 14 (.357 avg, 1.143 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 2 homers and 7 RBIs.  His season average has risen to .324 and his OPS is now .824 on the season.  Even with his recent hot streak, it will be hard for Spilboroghs to find enough playing time on the Rockies unless someone gets hurt.

The Colorado Rockies have been hot as of late

The Rockies are 8-5 the last two weeks as they’ve outscored their opponents 64-58.  The Rockies pitching has improved lately and their hitting is getting them just enough runs to win.  The Rockies enter this week with a 31-32 record which has them in 4th place in the National League West, 5.5 games behind the Padres and D-Backs.
