The Rockies have signed 35-year old righty swinging Juan Castro to a minor league contract. He likely won’t be in the minors long due to the fact that the Rockies are having troubles with the middle infield. Castro played in 7 games for the Reds this season and he was 0 for 10 (.000 avg, .091 OPS) with 1 run scored. Castro has now played in 930 games in his major league career and he is 510 for 2,221 (.230 avg, .604 OPS) with 211 runs scored, 33 homers and 195 RBIs. This is a nice low risk move for the Rockies.

The Rockies will be without the reigning Rookie of the Year Troy Tulowitzki likely until the All-Star Break as he has a torn quadriceps tendon. Tulowitzki has not been himself all season long as he has looked lost with a bat in his hands. He has played in 26 games this season for the Rockies and he is 16 for 105 (.152 avg, .464 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 1 homer and 11 RBIs. Clint Barmes will take over as the starting shortstop for the Rockies until Tulowitzki is ready to return. Barmes has played in 19 games for the Rockies this season and he is 19 for 65 (.292 avg, .832 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. Look for Barmes to do a good job for the Rockies.
