The Colorado Rockies sign Glendon Rusch

The Rockies have signed 34-year old lefty Glendon Rusch to a 1-year deal. Rusch pitched in 35 games (9 starts) with the Padres and Rockies in which he was 5-5 with a 5.16 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. He has now pitched in 331 games (220 starts) in his major league career and he is 65-99 with 4 saves, a 5.02 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP. Rusch has always been a very overrated pitcher and I don’t think he will change in 2009 for the Rockies. Don’t expect much out of him or you will be disappointed.

The Rockies have signed 38-year old lefty reliever Alan Embree to a 1-year contract with a option for 2010. Embree pitched in 70 games (0 starts) for the A’s last season and he was 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. He has now pitched in 846 games (4 starts) in his major league career and he is 37-43 with 25 saves, a 4.55 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. This was a good move for the Rockies who needed a lefty out of the bullpen.
