25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Carlos Gonzalez had a breakout season for the Rockies in 2010 earning him third place in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award. Ubaldo Jimenez finishes 3rd in the N.L. Cy Young Award voting

26-year old righty starting pitcher Udaldo Jimenez finished 3rd in the voting for the N.L. Cy Young Award. Jimenez started 33 games for the Rockies last season and he was 19-8 with a 2.88 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP. He has now pitched in 117 games (116 starts) in his first 5 years with the Rockies and he is 50-36 with a 3.52 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. I wouldn’t be shocked at all to see him win a Cy Young or two in his career as he has outstanding stuff.

UPDATE: (12/1/2010) - Ubaldo Jimenez has also finished 23rd in the voting for the N.L. MVP Award.

The Colorado Rockies have two All-Stars

The Rockies have two All-Stars. 25-year old shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and 26-year old righty starting pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez are the two guys. Tulowitzki has played in 62 games this season for the Rockies and he is 72 of 235 (.306 avg, .877 OPS) with 47 runs scored, 9 homers, 34 RBIs and 7 RBIs. He will have to miss his first All-Star Game appearance due to injury. Ubaldo Jimenez deserves to be the N.L. starting pitcher in my opinion despite his recent performance. Jimenez has pitched in 17 games (all starts) for the Rockies this year and he is 14-1 with a 2.27 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He has only given up 84 hits in 119 innings pitched so far this season as he has been downright nasty. This will be Jimenez’ first appearance in the All-Star Game.
