The Colorado Rockies place Jorge De La Rosa on the D.L.

The Rockies have placed 31-year old lefty starting pitcher Jorge De La Rosa on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26th as he continues to recover from Tommy John Surgery. De La Rosa will likely return to action for the Rockies in mid-June. De La Rosa pitched in 10 games (all starts) for the Rockies last year and he was 5-2 with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He has now pitched in 91 games (85 starts) in his first five years with the Rockies and he is 39-26 with a 4.38 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.

The Colorado Rockies place Charlie Blackmon on the D.L.

The Rockies have placed 25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Charlie Blackmon on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26th due to turf toe. Blackmon played in 27 games for the Rockies last year and he was 25 of 98 (.255 avg, .573 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 1 homer, 8 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. He also played in 58 games in AAA-ball last year in which he was 82 of 243 (.337 avg, .965 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 10 homers, 49 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. The Rockies should be o.k. without Blackmon to start the 2012 season, but he might help them later on in the season when he gets healthy.

Josh Outman starts the 2012 season on the D.L. for the Colorado Rockies

27-year old lefty starter/reliever Josh Outman will start the 2012 season on the 15-day D.L. due to an oblique injury. He pitched in 13 games (9 starts) for the A’s last year and he was 3-5 with a 3.70 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. He has now pitched in 33 games (25 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 8-8 with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. This will hurt the Rockies’ bullpen a little bit until Outman is ready to return to action as he has a live arm.

The Colorado Rockies shut down Ryan Spilborghs for the 2011 season

The Rockies have placed 32-year old righty swinging outfielder Ryan Spilborghs on the 60-day disabled list due to plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Spilborghs played in 98 games for the Rockies this year and he was 42 for 200 (.210 avg, .588 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 3 homers, 22 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. He has now played in 619 games in his first 7 years with the Rockies and he is 424 for 1,561 (.272 avg, .768 OPS) with 222 runs scored, 42 homers, 218 RBIs and 31 stolen bases. The Rockies did the right thing by shutting Spilborghs down as he played most of this year hurting.

The Colorado Rockies lose 2B Jonathan Herrera for the rest of the year

The Rockies have lost 26-year old switch-hitting 2B Jonathan Herrera for the rest of the season due to a fractured right index finger. Herrera played in 104 games for the Rockies this year and he was 68 for 281 (.242 avg, .612 OPS) with 28 runs scored, 3 homers, 14 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has now played in 208 games in his first three years with the Rockies and he is 145 for 564 (.257 avg, .639 OPS) with 67 runs scored, 4 homers, 38 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. This is a bad break for Herrera.
